Who are you?

Hi, I’m Kyle Jones, one of the Knowledge and Learning Services librarians at Darien Library in Darien, CT.

I used to work as the library IT specialist at Elmhurst College’s A.C. Buehler Library in Elmhurst, Illinois.

I do a little web design on the side to pay some bills and for general fun.

Why are you writing?

Blogging is an excellent way to stay professionally tuned and involved. I use this site to reflect on my professional growth, write occasional short essays, and share my knowledge with others. I use Twitter for quick dialogues but use this site as a medium to say just a little bit more…

What are your interests?

My interests are pretty varied. I think you’ll find, however, that my topics usually revolve around librarianship, instructional technologies, general technologies, web design, and information architecture.

What’s your academic background?

In May 2007 I graduated with Cum Laude honors from Elmhurst College with a Bachelor of Arts in English, teaching certification in secondary education, and a focus in communication studies. I was inducted into three honor societies, for two of which I was an executive board member, attendend and presented at regional and national conferences, and received a grant for a primary research project investigating online writing centers and online peer tutoring.

For the next two years I attended Dominican University’s Graduate School of Library and Information Science and graduated in May of 2009 with a Masters in Library and Information Science. I was awarded the Helen Cohen Outstanding Student Award for my graduate school and was inducted into Phi Beta Mu for ranking at the top of my class. Again I was active in regional and national conferences, presenting at many.

Yep. I’m open for consulting on a variety of topics: Web 2.0 applications, web design skills and trends, digital literacy, WordPress, and more. Nice theme! Where’d you get it?

In my free time I make WordPress themes, but seeing as free time has been non existent as of late I’ve resorted to using this lovely theme called Titan by the folks over at Jestro.

Hopefully I can treat myself with another custom theme in the near future.  Hopefully…
