Snooping on Students’ Digital Footprints Won’t Improve their Experiences


It’s unrealistic to simply pass large datasets to departments and expect that they will be effectively used in course design, as staff may have neither the time nor the expertise to properly consider how the data could be applied.

As the learning analytics idea gathers momentum, institutions must also make clear distinctions between how data might be used to analyse student behaviour and how the same data could be used as a performance measure for staff.
